I'm trying to find a blogging platform that i can integrate into an existing site. Thus i need a simple, single-page blog with no extras necessary that can be used to convey news. Willing to go anyway as far as back-end (php. etc.), but i wish it wasn't java or JavaScript based.

Maybe not what you're looking for, but a simple WordPress install is not difficult. You don't have to use all the thousands of customization options, and it's all on one page by default. Almost any webhosting service should be able to supply WordPress. It does require a database backend, and it's written in PHP. You can also just use wordpress.com (free) and integrate your page there into your site.

You may want to look into Chyrp (PHP/MySQL). It's supposedly lightweight, but I don't know how well it would integrate with an existing site. I haven't tried Chyrp myself, but I've seen it recommended several times. Wordpress is pretty heavy especially if you're just looking for simple news updates.

Wordpess can be installed with everything except the main index.php file in a separate folder.
