Workstation/Renderer for 3ds Max 2010
Does anyone can give me an advice for configuring a cost-efficient workstation (and also being a renderer) for 3ds Max 2010?
I know that Autodesk scales perfect with multi core CPUs and so I thought about a dual CPU combination with the new AMD Magny-Cours (12 core) Processor. That's the impr...
Finding feet for desktop workstation mounted vertically
At work we have relatively slim (about 3.5" wide) Dell PC desktop workstations. These are placed vertically (on their sides) on the floor under our desks. They're not very stable, and a coworker knocked his over today (causing it to fail to boot).
I've seen L- or wing-shaped "feet...
Linux workstation: how to know if it has been rooted?
I was working on my Linux "workstation" (it has no sound and I don't play on it nor watch any movie: it's purely a work-machine, hence I call it my "workstation") and suddenly something very weird happened.
I was browsing, using a temporary user account (one I use only for browsin...

Looking for Inneroffice Access Tool, Workstation to Workstation
This may be a simple question to answer, and I apologize if it's a duplicate. I looked through the suggestions and nothing jumped out at me as the right answer, so here goes:

Problem with Strange VMWare behaviour when shutting down guest.
Hi,
I've been having a problem for a while now with VMWare Workstaion. (Originally with 6.5, but now with 7.0 and 7.0.1 too).
The problem occurs when I choose to shut down a guest. VMWare itself seems to hang.
If I choose to shut down a guest that's...

How do I remove encryption from a VMware Workstation 7 image?
I successfully encrypted a VM image and confirmed it still runs. I then closed the VM and reopened it and confirmed the encryption password was valid and worked. However, now I want to un-encrypt the VM. When I choose that option, it asks for "your password". I assume this means the password I cr...

Best way to set up a completely virtualized workstation
I was going to put a type 1 hypervisor (specifically Hyper-V Server 2008 R2) on my computer, but these must be managed remotely, which I am unable to do. I need something that can bootstrap itself; i.e., install and manage VMs from within the host itself. Running VMware Workstation on a Windows...
Workstation Build: Single 2.66 GHz i7 with overclock potential, OR Dual 5520 2.26 GHz Xeons?
I am rebuilding my desktop in a few months. Aside from normal lightweight internet usage, I use it to run SQL Server, MySQL, 1-2 Ubuntu VMs from time to time, lots of IDE's, and a media server for my PS3.
The two possible setups cost the exact same amount (within US$50) and would ...
